Facing a Divorce? You are going to want to review this ENTIRE page
Threats that you won’t get Custody? Threats that you won’t get anything?
(Call Now, We can only fight for ONE side of the case)
You may be on this page because you made the decision to end your unhappy relationship. You may be on this page because your spouse just served you with divorce papers out of nowhere and you are wondering where to go from here. Whichever position you are in, you still have a lot of decisions and issues to work through whether you have absolutely no property and a ton of debt or several kids and a multimillion-dollar business.
When people are facing going through a divorce, they have to figure out a countless number of issues:
There are options out there. You could do it yourself to save some money. The forms are on the internet. But, this option always comes with a huge risk. First, how do you even file the paperwork with the Court? Which court do I file it at?
Second, the forms are long and complicated. To fill them out correctly, you have to figure out all the issues that come with a divorce like:
You could get on an online document preparation site and get the forms filled out for you. Those sites do not take into account your specific circumstances. They do not guide you what you should be asking for or talk to you at all. They simply take what you tell it and put it on a form.
The Idaho Family Law Handbook is over 1,000.00 pages long. The handbook takes all the law in Idaho and somewhat condenses it into a book for lawyers (not the general public) to understand. It takes all the law and statutes that have taken place over the last 100 years and “condenses” it into what a LAWYER needs to know about family law.
However, what you need to think about is that those over 1,000 pages condenses several thousand pages of the law into a summary, but within those other several thousand pages are intricacies that deal with issues that your case may have. Only a lawyer has the skills and tools to look at your scenario, pick out the right case from the past and argue it in front of the court to get you the right and best result at the end of your case.
You can see why doing it on your
own either with the forms from the Supreme Court’s website or with a document
preparation site will get your screwed for life.
You could also hire a bargain basement lawyer to handle your case. It’s better than nothing, right. It is a step above doing it yourself, right? BUT, you need to keep in mind, the lawyer charging bottom dollar is doing so for a reason.
In that situation, you may end up PAYING BIG TIME several times, and not just during the initial case.
First, you could be paying by not getting the time with the kids that you deserve because the bargain attorney did not know what he or she was doing, filed the wrong paperwork (we see it all the time), didn’t understand the law (we see this all the time too), filed the paperwork too late, or didn’t pay enough attention to your case to understand the facts to present it to the court in a persuasive manner.
Second, you could pay by not getting the assets you deserve. This could be for the same reasons as before.
Third, you more than likely will have to either bring in an experienced attorney during or after the case to clean up the bargain basement lawyer’s mess. Sometimes, the bargain lawyer has already done the damage and it can’t be repaired. But, in those situations when it can be, sometimes only part of it can because, typically, when there is a property/asset division already done, it is almost impossible to reverse.
So, you can see why hiring the cheapest attorney in town is really just shooting yourself in the foot.
